Biography

Shri Vijay Rupani is the 16th Chief Minister of Gujarat. Born in Rangoon to Ramniklal Rupani on August 2nd 1956, he grew up in Rajkot. After completing his Graduation in Arts, he pursued LLB. He rose through the ranks, from being an ABVP activist to a Rajya Sabha Member, MLA, Cabinet Minister and then CM.

Known for his amiable personality and empathic attitude, CM Shri Vijay Rupani is a beloved leader of both, party and people. A long time karyakarta and a humble leader, his patience and perseverance makes him an exceptional leader. An ardent follower of the Indian democracy, CM Shri Vijay Rupani even endured imprisonment during the 1975 emergency.

He served as Chairman of Tourism Corporation of Gujarat Limited and spearheaded the memorable Tourism Campaign 'Khushboo Gujarat Ki' that established Gujarat as a prominent tourist destination. He was a member of the Rajya Sabha between 2006-2012 and played an active role in parliamentary committees on Water Resources, Food, Public Distribution and Public Utility. He served as the Chairman of Gujarat Municipal Finance Board in 2013. He won with a huge margin in assembly bye-election held in October, 2014. In the former Cabinet headed by CM Smt. Anandiben Patel, Shri Vijay Rupani served as Minister for Water Supply, Transport, Labour and Employment. On February 19, 2016, Shri Vijay Rupani replaced Shri R C Faldu as Gujarat State Party President.

Shri Vijay Rupani replaced Smt. Anandiben Patel as the CM in August 2016.

CM Shri Vijay Rupani follows the mantra of development for all and he has affirmed 'The seat holds little priority. Keeping his promise of development for all; he took major initiatives during the first month of his Chief Ministership. CM Vijay Rupani has set four pillars of good governance, transparent, sensitive, decisive and progressive Government for balanced growth of Agriculture, Industries and Services that will ensure growth for all and fulfill aspirations of each class.
